The 2011 Urban Design Studio focused on an urban design project for Berrien Springs, MI. The project required students to demonstrate a synthesis of historical and technical knowledge, formal skills, urban and civic sensibilities acquired in previous years of architectural education. The intent is to provide a municipality with a quantified master plan and vision for future growth, incorporating form-based codes verses traditional zoning. Twenty six students—six teams—completed the award winning project earning the 2012 CNU Charter Award, Grand Prize, in the academic division (fourth such award in the last five years). Students presented the completed project to the Village of Berrien Springs and Oronoko township.

Book was used for 2012 NCARB university accreditation and project is on display at Andrews University.
